After hearing about Red Dragons awesome jerk pork and ice cold beers .Jaws and I want to visit them this Nov.,what is the best day
to go there and how far is it from Catcha Falling Star??

Any day is great at the Dragon, but there is no pork served on Sundays.

During busy season, Mondays tends to be the day when there are a number of tourists meeting up there.

This started since the Red Dragon is one of our favorite places to hang out, they have a car wash near by and we tend to be a bit more busy during the webcasts to be able to spend all the time we want with visitors to Negril. We asked the owners and regulars if they would mind if we "invited and invaded" the bar with our visitor friends on Mondays in a more informal setting. They approved, so Mondays became a great way for us to not be working and still be able meet and greet Boardies from all over!

But any day other than Sundays is a great day to get pork and ice cold beers at the Red Dragon in Red Ground. Red Dragon is about 5 miles from Catcha, but it is not on the standard "route" as no route taxis go into Red Ground. To charter a taxi, expect to spend at least us$5 per couple depending on which driver you take.

I went with a local on A Thursday at11:30. 500J from the beach. The pork wasn't. ready but the bar was full of cricket fans watching a match.It was fun to hear the banter. I was the only blond guy there. A big guy walks in, looks around and points at me and says "White guy!" I pooped my pants. He pulls up to the bar and shows this big wad of cash. I was sure then that he was a local drug lord or mafia hitman and I wouldn't be home for dinner. My friend sensed my unease and told me he was a moneychanger and just then the guy turns to me, raises his glass of rum and smiles. God I love Negril. The pork was great the company as well but a I think I'll try to meet up with Rob and Lisa on a Monday, next time.

Overall it's busier during the afternoon....people go in & out all day...some evenings can be busy if something is going on in the neighbourhood....

Dash, don't despair. I've been here 5 years and many people know me. The money changers pester me all the time! It's a malady of being white. LOL! I have been living here 20 years now, and trust me, the money changers pester anyone they think has money to change. The money changers all know me and I still get asked nearly every day. No biggie...

Obviously, if someone is white in Negril, there is a very good chance they are a tourist, so the money changers would be stupid not to play those odds. But if they think anyone has money to change, regardless of their color or nationality, they will ask them - even Jamaicans get this attention. I have seen hundreds of taxi drivers refuse the money changing question.

As for any "apron strings" - as I stated, any day (other than Sunday) is a great day to get ice cold beer and great jerk pork at the Red Dragon. The Monday gatherings were purely set up to allow us a chance to sit and talk without being behind a keyboard with our Boardie friends.

And if by chance that makes some feel more comfortable in exploring the Red Ground area and Red Dragon - that is wonderful. But no one needs to hide behind some imaginary apron strings....

I always walk up, and then grab a beer at Collettes bar, a little place painted yellow on the walk back down the hill.. Ice cold beers and a very nice lady running de place..
