    Flight Purchasing Tips Needed

So I'm getting ready to purchase my flight for my 2nd reach in April 2014. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on saving money on purchasing American Airline tickets whether it be promo codes or a specific date or week(s) prior to April I should purchase my ticket? Any tips?

I bought my ticket last year in November for $615 for last April's reach. I'm traveling from the Midwest USA.

I just bought tickets for the last week of March 2014 with American Airlines for $480 round trip from Kansas City to MBJ. It's about the cheapest I've seen a flight to MBJ in about 2 years. My wife said book it as soon as I said $480. I find flights are cheaper if you arrive/depart on a Wednesday. I check prices almost daily and also have some sites like kayak that email me. One thing I noticed is Kayak and other websites will load a cookie on your computer and if you keep checking the price will go up or stay the same. If you delete your cookies you will get better results.

I use Kayak & Skyscanner on my iPhone. I check flights constantly!

Just keep on checking....I go directly to the airlines site. Watch them everyday....and when you see a real good price, be ready to hit the button....I did this on a recent trip from NY to California. I saw a great price in Oct, $300 RT NS....and didn't take it....then they went up to $800 for months....and stayed like that till March...1 month before I saw it again for $300 and wasn't going to let that get away....so start looking now....if you see a great price, be ready to hit it, because you don't know if it will ever get like that again. Good luck!

I just d/l'ed those two apps Steph mentioned. For some reason, I always prefer Delta. IDK, does anyone else have a favorite airline? I wish we lived close to a hub.

I check everything and everywhere I can when I am looking for flights for trips. This is my first JA trip but I've Greece twice, Germany, Mexico City, Dublin and a number of States trips recently. I have found the best deals in different places every time. For this JA trip we used Expedia because with the hotel, the trip was only $50 more than just the flight alone on the airline's website for the exact same flight! Just be diligent about checking once or twice a day, delete cookies, check from different computers, etc.

Ditto what nicole.edith suggested, delete cookies, temp internet files if you are "checking frequently" (another good suggestion from others). They track you, see you are interested and bump the price. Best we have found from BNA is using Southwest/Air Tran but cannot book yet since our next reach is April.

$480 is exactly what I'm looking for! What time of day was it that you found that deal?

I read it in a travel article on how to get the best deal on airline flights some time back but if you google something like "do airlines track your internet search" you can find plenty of articles that support this business tactic/model. Really it only makes sense for them to do so.
You can also swap up like do a search with Firefox then IE then Chrome but once you have used all 3 for a single search start deleting cookies and temp files.
