Re: kiteboarding in negril?
They do quite a bit of it near where I live, mostly off the Sanibel Causeway, in SW Florida. The US hotspot is near the mouth of the Columbia River gorge near Portland Oregon. A great international spot is Cabarete Beach on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, less than an hours drive from POP international airport Puerto Plata, DR. Some sections of 7mile beach are open enough although I'e never seen anyone doing it there. Most of the beach is roped in swimming areas in front of the various resorts, also not a great sport around swimmers.

Re: kiteboarding in negril?
all great info....i have been to negril a few times and would like to bring my gear next time...i know of the open areas on 7 mile beach....i think alfreds is down that way....i was thinking this would be the best place to rig...less swimming area, less people....is this the area u was talking about? what r your thoughts?

Re: kiteboarding in negril?
No wrong section there are lots of swimmers in that area, I meant some sections of Long Bay Beach, like across from Kool Runnings Water Park. Please don't do it anywhere around swimmers, you could seriously f up someone's vacation. If it was a member of my family hurt, it wouldn't be a pleasant afternoon for anyone. That's why I suggested a cheap caribbean location better suited to the sport.

Re: kiteboarding in negril?
maybe im thinking of the wrong area...and my plan was never to set up around anybody or put anyone at risk...with proper technique and training kiteboarding can be very safe...

Re: kiteboarding in negril?
Hi there, my daughter and her friends have kited a few times from Seasplash Resort on a quiet day and also from Long Bay Beach. She sets up a few steps up the beach from Seasplash where the beach is a bit wider. She says to kite in Negril you must be fully independent.....self land, self launch etc. unless you have a buddy to help you.
Its not a popular sport in Negril but its great if the wind is right.

Re: kiteboarding in negril?
kc. Late November early December would be a great time to go. The seasons are shifting and there can be a good bit of wind. The swimming ares do not extend that far, you should be able to put in, just about anywhere.
