The duffel so far for Saint Anthony.

About 10 pair of sneakers, 10 pair of flip flops, assorted girls dresses, jeans for boys and girls, t shirts for boys and girls, lots of hair accessories for girls, half a dozen jump ropes, flash cards, couple bags of those balloons on a rubber band.... Only 33 pounds, so I can cram more in... Any thoughts?

Maybe some hair accessories, combs, etc for the girls? Also what about some of the little paperback early readers (they're really light)? They are always a decent price at Goodwill where I live. Or how about craft supplies? They sell big bags of assorted crafting supplies at Target, Wal-Mart, Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc.?

There are 10 cards or so of hair accessories in there... Some of them have a dozen hair clips on them, some are assorted beads, rubber bands and the like.. The reader thing is a good idea. I had looked at coloring books and things of that nature. There are a half dozen packages of flash cards in there, all number based (decided against any grammar or spelling based ones).

Maybe go to the dollar tree and get some items...either toiletries or more school supplies.

Great job. Where is exactly is St Anthony's located? I'd love to bring some supplies there myself. Even though I've been to negril more than 1/2 dozen times (I'm not exactly sure if its 7 or 8 times-blurry memories for some reason) I mostly smill about the beach but this would give me a good excuse to wander into town. Do you have any contact infomation if I have any other questions?
    Thanks

How about a few soccer balls? We found some last trip that weren't inflated and came with a little pump...

Looks great btw - good on you

33 pounds and counting! Bring some children's underwear and socks. The kids always need that. School shoes--black sneakers work for boys--stuff a pair or two in that bag. How about a back pack or two? a few little battery operated calculators would be nice.

Soccer balls are nice and deflated don't take up much room. The problem with them is distribution. It's hard to give out 2 balls when 20 kids are there. We can use them as motivation though. We are implementing attendance prizes this year. Our Get Kids to School attendance this past year was 88.%--incredible for kids who two years ago were not going to school or only 2 or 3 days a week. This year we are shooting for over 90%

St. Anthony's Kitchen is sponsored by Mary Gate of Heaven Catholic Church (MGH) and the Franciscan Friars It is located on Nompriel Road (the main road to Savanna-la-mar) just beyond the Taxi Park and before Sweet Spice restaurant. it is open Monday through Friday. The ladies begin about 6:30 a.m.. During school kids get lunch starting at 7:00 a.m.. 40 t 0 50 kids stop by each morning. Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (about 130/day). You can drop stuff off there any time. Get Kids to School is an outreach of the Kitchen. This past year we sponsored 40 children going to 9 different school (basic to high school). The duffel bag is bringing stuff for the kids mostly. We also have a thrift shop, Anthony's Annex. We welcome clothing and household items there too. MGH is located on Norman Manley Blvd. (The Beach Road) across from Coco La Palm. Items can be dropped off there too.

As for contact--how about me. I am the Franciscan pastor at MGH, Fr. Jim Bok, and the overseer of these things. Contact me at jimbok@franciscan.org or my cell (1-876-881-1763). Hope this info helps.
