been riding the roads in Jamaica since '84, it was much safer then...now too many cars, too much speed, and with the narrow roads its a recipe for major crashes...... its gonna get worse...the infrastructure must catch up with the rising count of automobiles, back in the day with the roads being so bad, and cars going from one side to the other avoiding potholes was better, the speeds were lower and drivers had to keep their heads on a "swivel"....add in the cell phone use while driving now....... Oh Boy!...................

"YES,THAT WOULD BE MINE" I said as my leg that at first gave no pain, started dishing it out in large bunches........"

This is the case of the West End Road. In the early to mid 90's it was a mess but
much safer for the pedestrians. Now, its a race track.
    No longer a pleasant walk.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Alrick James family and friends, we have not heard any details regarding what caused the crash that happened in Sandy Bay, about 20 mins from Montego Bay and about an hour outside of Negril and no where near the West End Road.

And for those concerned, a cellphone ban while driving is coming in as this article in the Gleaner states:

    http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/2...uto/auto2.html

And the construction sidewalk on the beach road has reached Cafe Goa and people are already using the areas that are completed.

As soon as the sidewalk is done on the beach road (December 2013), similar construction will be started on the West End as this article states:

"The NWA CEO highlighted the fact that after the completion of the first 4KM, a long term partnership will be entered into between the TEF and NWA for the further expansion of the sidewalk and collateral works, as well as sidewalks in the west end to carry the project through to its logical conclusion."

As with some other areas, trees and plants will need to be relocated, the government can procure the land using the legal concept of eminent domain. This will be the same way that the sidewalk will be constructed on the West End Rd.

The current sidewalk is blocked at the area right in front of the Yoga Centre - with the sidewalk continuing on both sides of the property.
