I have friends in Negril that want visa to the US. Does anyone have any concrete information on how to achieve this. Seems they go and give money, are asked a few questions and denied. Any info or feedback would be appreciated.

They must have significant ties to the island, (ie a good job, own their home, bank account/substantial savings) in order to receive a US visa. In other words, they must have the motivation to return to Jamaica when their visa expires.
kim&betty,thank you

It is real tough, especially now days! Even before 9-11, we sponsored a family whose son was going to have a "gratis" surgery by the surgeon that I worked for. Even the local hospital volunteered to waive the charges...and the rotary helped pay for their plane tickets. They stayed with us for 27 days while this took place.
YET, even with all of that info...it took us over 3 months of hard work, contacting one of our Senators, multiple phone calls and documentation..to get approval. And this was with a medical problem of a Jamaican child whose life was changed for the better. I would hate to think of how hard it is now. Good luck!

My American friend's daughter married a Jamaican man she met at college and her family sponsored him through the whole process. From my understanding it is a ton of paperwork, quite a bit of money (immigration lawyer + Fees), etc.... Also I believe you need to be somewhat close to a US Passport Office because all the documents they request. The Jamaican guy got his paperwork and married and now has his Green Card. Now his mother wants to come over and despite his Green Card Status it still is slow, expensive and frustrating. I have a Jamaican friend in Portland who has family members settled legally in the states, mother is in Florida and he has been turned down at the US Embassy in Kingston at his first try for a tourist visa. Humble guy in his 60's, good man no threat to anybody but I guess the fear is him not going back to JA when his visa expires. A little hard to understand considering many of the US policies on foreigners entering America?? But what do I know??
