Re: Visa for Jamaican friends
My American friend's daughter married a Jamaican man she met at college and her family sponsored him through the whole process. From my understanding it is a ton of paperwork, quite a bit of money (immigration lawyer + Fees), etc.... Also I believe you need to be somewhat close to a US Passport Office because all the documents they request. The Jamaican guy got his paperwork and married and now has his Green Card. Now his mother wants to come over and despite his Green Card Status it still is slow, expensive and frustrating. I have a Jamaican friend in Portland who has family members settled legally in the states, mother is in Florida and he has been turned down at the US Embassy in Kingston at his first try for a tourist visa. Humble guy in his 60's, good man no threat to anybody but I guess the fear is him not going back to JA when his visa expires. A little hard to understand considering many of the US policies on foreigners entering America?? But what do I know??
