    Send money

Fastest, easiest way to send money to a friend in Jamaica from Canada. I need to do this as soon as possible.

I use xoom and moneygram. It depends on what place is closer to them. When I send money to negril, I use moneygram and when I send some to manchester I use xoom.

Xoom doesn't work from Canada. Western union will work. If you use Scotiabank online it costs $10, maybe more if larger amounts. Cheaper than going direct through Western Union.

When using WU the receiver must have 2 pieces of ID, the transfer number, the senders name and the amount being sent.

Thanks for the info. Used money gram. Very easy sending and pickup. Cost me $15 so not cheap.

I wonder if you couldn't just make a deposit in their checking account and they could withdraw from the ATM in Negril. Seems easy enough anyways?!?!?!?

Checking account? Yea good idea or she could just use her credit card or bank card. LOL. Like many Jamaicans in Negril my friend has no checking account and has no money to put in an account if she had one. She and her family live hand to mouth, day to day. She buys food and other necessities with cash when she has it and has done so her entire life. Next time your in Negril visit the area up the hill behind the taxi stand downtown. You will see an area called "capture land" which is essentially a shanty town-illegally constructed shacks made of whatever material is available. These are the people that make use of St Anthony's kitchen. The poverty is extreme. At 7:00 am you will also see many the the kids in the worn but crisp and clean school uniforms, assuming there is bus or taxi and lunch money available that day.

Slimjim, you are so right. I have ventured out and see how many live, you may be depressed once you see it, but I never heard them complain once. The simplest things seem to make them happy.

Completely misunderstood your question, I read this as one of your friends from Canada was in Jamaica and you needed to send money, in which case it would be easy enough to deposit money in their checking account and withdraw in Negril.

And I misunderstood your response, sorry 'bout that. I should listen more to my wife when she says "shut up already".
