Use a Negril phone in another country

I have a Digicell phone that I purchased in Negril about 2 years ago and add minutes to it every month (I get to keep my same phone number plus will have lots off minutes when i arrive). I am off to the Dominican Republic and I am wondering if anybody on here has used there JA cell there?

can't say for sure about the DR, but my Digicel from JA would not work on the Digicel network in Trinidad - had to buy a separate SIM that worked on their local network. Even though still Digicel the networks were not compatible, even for roaming.

My digicel didn't work in Trinidad either (Carnival 2013)! So I can take my Jamaican digicell and when I get to the DR, i purchase a SIM card and then my phone will work? I will have a DR phone number for the week and will be using DR minutes not the JA minutes I've already earned? Then when Iget to JA, I just put my JA SIM card back in and my JA phone number and minutes will be there barring no other unforeseen circumstances. Sorry, for be so dimwitted on this.

possibly - but that all depends on their local network and if it will work with your JA-purchased phone; depending on the specific brand & model of phone, it may not be compatible. You'll have to ask the Digicel people when you get there. If your phone can work with their network, then yes, you would just install the DR SIM into the phone.

- yes, if their local SIM will work in that specific model of phone -- it may not; all depends on their network and setup there.

If all the above is successful and you've used a DR SIM in it while in DR, then yes... because your JA minutes are loaded on your JA SIM, which you will remove from the phone - so they should not be affected.
