This too is as old as time. Cultural differences alter the way it is practiced, but how much difference is there really? There are no shortage of older men "dating" much, much younger women in the US. It's just that a few more steps are taken here to give the practice a cloak of respectability. But isn't the game really pretty much the same wherever you go?

i don't think one party is in full control of ANY relationship - lol - so the consentual part in the "romance tourism" is sex for money - that's the CONTRACT- so to speak -When one party is in full control of the relationship - is it actually consentual, or for the disadvantaged is it simply a means of getting by?
though the approach appears to be different for men and women - male sex tourist - pay 'em and keep moving - female sex tourist - thinks it love before she finds out it's money (and isn't even about the sex for him)
hmmm -- maybe men are better negotiators - because i haven't heard many stories of men virtually losing everything because of their "holiday romance" lol
some of the women i know went from riches to rags ----- oh and then you don't have any money -- NEXT!

I have seen it happen both ways, men get caught up in their "knight in shining armor" fantasy relationship. But I can tell you that the guys who have fallen hook, line and sinker for their "island girl" and then get burned dont ever announce it publicly. They blame themselves then are too embarrassed and ashamed to admit it happened to them.

When we were there in June, it was actually more prevelant with the beach boy's and the older women. A couple of older women (older than I am anyway) arrived at our hotel a few days after we got there, and they were looking for beach boys to hook up with. They knew exactly what they were going for and that it would cost them. I don't think they were more than 24 hours before they had their companions..but thats what they were there for I guess..

This was the second time I saw this article when Bnewb posted it. My first thought was "daily mail"... Rubbish. I really had not realized it was so prevalent. I live in an insulated world I think...
