The traditional Jamaican culture is still alive and well

As you may have read my Jamaican daughter is getting married after New Year but what happened today even surprised me.

I got a phone call from Riccardo (a Rasta btw) asking formally for her hand in marriage. After I regained my composure I give my heart felt Blessing.

Shortly thereafter Alisa called and requested that I walk here down the isle and give her in marriage.

Under all the "ya mon" and beach scene in Negril, Jamaicans are very proper and even old fashioned.

Miss G and I are Blessed

Congratulation Captain!! Nice to see that formality is still alive. I also found most Jamaicans to be very old fashioned and family oriented at heart

    Very cool Captain.
One of the reasons I love Negril (Jamaica) is that it reminds me so much of being a child and visiting my mom's small hometown in Eastern Ontario.
    People had manners, traditions, pride.
Not everyone had an indoor toilet or paved street. One relative had a big black wood burning stove and a hand-pump for water in the kitchen as well as a pantry, summer kitchen, and cold cellar. Cars were patched up and run till they couldn't run no more. People were neighborly and friendly and mostly honest.....like our favourite spot on planet earth; Negril.

    Congratulations Cap,

You are a lucky and blessed man!!

Your observations about Jamaicans is very true. What many fail to realize is that many Jamaicans that move to Negril are from other areas and Negril offers an opportunity financially that they may not have at home. I remember after many visits to Negril deciding to venture out and see what else the island had to offer so I travelled the length and width of the island and found that Jamaicans were the friendliest, most generous people I had met. The people off the beaten path were shy, welcoming, and happy to talk and learn about things that they hadn't been exposed to. That was a long time ago and I know that things in JA have moved fast in the past 10-20 years but I was in Portland two years ago and met up with an old friend who I hadn't seen since 1998. He referred to me to everybody we met as his brother, not once did anyone beg me or trouble me in any way during my stay. So I am reinforcing your statement that "Jamaicans are very proper and even old fashioned". The salt of the earth!!!
