Drinking your own beer at non AI

at Catcha Falling Star we had a case of Miller Lite in our room, my husband payed $45 for a caseat a local store (ridculous I know, but its his fav beer), but then we bought Red Stripe and other drinks at the bar, we told the bartenders about the ML and they actually wanted to try one, so I brought one down to them to try out, as its an import in Jamaica!

I also carried it around w/ me throughout the property, but we bought plenty of food and other drinks, so I didn't feel bad

Try looking at it this way: You're in your hometown and decide to go to the neighborhood Holiday Inn for chicken wings and beer. You buy a 6 pack at your local liquor store and walk in and proceed to crack one open on their poolside patio.

If I had rented a room there (vs just walking in off the street), I would be fine consuming drinks I'd brought in myself...but not at the bar or the restaurant. Hotels at home don't usually allow you to walk around the property with booze though (if you buy a beer in the lounge, they don't let you walk out of the lounge with it); it's different in Negril. I would be put off by a hotel that had a "no outside food or drink" policy...but totally understandable if you're not renting a room there. When I go hang out at Xtabi or Sunbeach etc., I would never bymob, but I feel it's different if I'm a registered guest.

I don't post much anymore but this one and also maybe the fact that I'm having a few red stripes at my own bar after a hard days work kind of grabbed at me to type a lil bit.

This is just my opinion only( but a question was asked), in your room, on your balcony, porch, or deck, you bet no problem, my room usually has a case in the frig and 2 or 3 stacked next to the frig. But being honest that's only for when the hotel I am staying at bar is closed or if we want privacy and do not feel like going to the bar area.

VVHT & Big Frank nailed it, not only are the hotel's bar's and restaurant's money generators for the owner's. but they also employ servers and bartenders who depend upon guest and walkin's alike to patronize the bar, pool area's for a living. And carrying my own drinks on the beach, wow,! I guess we must be really different, sorry, just can't see it.
Whether I'm staying at hotel and lounging on their beach loungers or just strolled up to use their loungers because I like the vibe there, again .... just can't see it. I'm , we, are purchasing our beverages from the respective bar where we choose to plop are a$$e$. As I type this Badnaz is totally in disagreement with me and cursing me, so this proves that there is quite a wide range of thoughts on this question. Which also makes it a great question!

I guess there is really no wrong answer, but jeez I have to wonder, how much are stripes? (which most people drink while there), $J300 on the high end and the most frequented places are beat down to $J175 or $J200 ...... for that view, and vibe to me they are practically giving them away?! Stripes here in the Midwest at our local bar are quite a bit more than on a million dollar view beach/cliff area priced ones at Negril. But I also feel the same way about the folks that beeeotch about the price of a lunch, or dinner on the beach and don't even remotely comprehend the overhead, let alone the view and ambiance they are receiving. Go figure.

I know this won't be a popular response but again I am offering only my Humble opinion and how we roll, to each their own.

By the way the only part of this response that is not truthful is the part about me working hard today

I agree somewhat with Jam,when we stayed for 7 nights at HSH on the cliffs we bought a bottle of vodka and some mixers and took it back to our room.I talked with Terry,the manager at HSH and explained that we were there for 7 days and would be buying alot(a real lot)of drinks at her bar but we wanted to be able to hang out in the pool with our big mugs of vodka drinks.She had no problem with that at all and in fact liked the fact that i bought bags of ice for her bar as long as she would allow me a couple of fill ups each day.We never drank our drinks at her bar and we spent a bunch of money with her.I think common sense comes into play lots of the time along with courtesy.

overall most places wish(or don't allow) that you didn't BYOB if they have a bar or restaurant serving drinks....
that's their revenue source and they are in business to make money.......
some places go to the extent to post signs to dat effect.....though there aren't many signs.....

we stay at Rooms, usually for a couple of weeks each Feb., i bring a soft cooler loaded with my own red stripe and ice and drink it all over the property, and pool and give out beers to the workers, however,i do not drink my own beer at Rooms bar, i usually stagger over to Sunnyside and buy a few each day, and hang around The Wall, soon come
