jenb... used to be - probably because it's illegal - that beach horseback riding was early in the morning or later in the evening (less police presence walking the beach?). The last several years, they're out there at all times of the day, not trying to be inconspicuous at all. 3-4-5X a day... horses running along the beach & this is in the summer. My guess would be that the lack of consequences when they were on the beach infrequently led to an open acceptance & the current blatant disregard for the illegality of the act. Also, times tough so it's a way for some to earn some tourist $$$.

I remember meeting a kid on a horse a few reaches ago. He couldn't have been more than 14 but swore it was it his horse. He said for $15 I could ride it. I wasn't into it, but hey at least he wasn't begging for a handout ....

I want those kids in school. If they look young ask them why are they in school? Many of the operators eat at St Anthony's kitchen. If only they could get another skill

No one should be riding the horses on the beach! Or running them, they don't belong there!

Have seen too many tourists almost run over my the horses running at full speed down the beach. I think it is too dangerous when the beach is full.

I saw several police fruitlessly chasing some guys on horseback a couple of weeks ago. The cops were on foot, and as they chased, the guys on the horses would run a little, then stop and laugh. I guess the cops need horses, too....but that might be even more dangerous. A merchant I spoke to suggested that the police have someone where the horses enter the beach to stop it. I don't know what the solution is. But, there has to be one.

One solution is to encourage tourists NOT to ride.... if they were not making money, they would leave. If you don't want to see horses on the beach, don't ride them and be sure to tell other tourists the same.
