    Re: Beef?

Going since mid 80's when the beef tasted like crap, it was over-spiced when made into hamburger......over the years the beef has gotten really better....I have no problem with it at all.....the beef is somewhat dry as it doesn't have a lot of fat in it....more like lean ground round......
The BK taste like Chicago-New York or wherever.......
Serious Chicken has a roast beef dinner with mashed potatoes and real gravy...taste just like "MOM's.....
and if you have a kitchen and or a grill...making hamburgers yourself and really slow cooking them with keep the fat content taste in the beef...it will taste as good as your used to.....the names of the beef dinners may be misleading so if in doubt....ask how its made first...I have ordered Meatloaf..but it was so over-spiced that I didn't care for it........
But its all good....cant go wrong with chicken cooked over a open fire, outdoors..........
"One of the laundry gals pipes up ,,"LOOK AT DA BLOOD"
"YES,THAT WOULD BE MINE" I said as my leg that at first gave no pain, started dishing it out in large bunches........"

    Re: Beef?

Surprisingly timely topic. I recently purchased 2 lbs of mince beef from the meat market behind the cashpot in town. It looked, smelled and cooked up nice (I make a simple kind of meatloaf). It was very lean and absorbed all the butter I cooked it in. I will buy it again.

I agree with Bob - don't knock the goat 'til you've tried it!

    Re: Beef?

hey it's the islands and you usually eat like the locals when you der.....it's not like if you are in N America......
there is fish, chicken, lobster, goat, pork and more chicken...for mi beef means Oxtail in Jamaica....
in the 80's wi were stuck with Jamaican beef and it was as tuff as nails.....trust mi....
nowadays they import a lot of beef into Jamaica from N America......
so it's not much of a problem anymore getting half decent beef........
being in Jamaica and eating foreign beef these days is kinda against mi religion.....plus it's very expensive
but if you want the best beef....go to Kuyaba and get their Steak dinner or Steak Kabobs......
good burgers to be had at SeaStar and their huge....but mi usually opt for their great chicken wings

You haven't lived until you try some curry goat. One of my favorite dishes on the island.

    Ivan,s has a great steak!

Seastar has roast beef in the buffet, and a real good burger on the menu.

Sunset after dark , and several other places have good burgers.

Look; things have changed in Jamaica. Good Cheeseburgers are not difficult to find. Seastar highly recommended but even a dozen years ago Bar-b-barn had great charbroiled hamburgs.
Jamaica's Burger King's have posters that boast only Jamaican Beef is used.
As long as it's cooked to 160 degrees in the middle (c); don't worry.

    HUSH your-mouth(s), people...!!... PLEASE

for me, the less-folks wanting/eating/liking goat-meat the better, for me.

it makes me so mad, when i go someplace and all the curried goat is gone --- SOLD OUT...!!!...

    :-(

as for the beef, some of the BEST-tasting beef I've EVER had in my life was at a country-side wake.

Once upon a time, during an early in the morning jog, i saw a pretty-pretty almost-blond colored cow tied to a tree.

About 3-4 hours later the cow was gone.

    I asked:::>> "..where's the cow..??.."
the answer was:::>> "..in the freezer, to be served at the wake tomorrow.."

OF COURSE i scurried to that wake ---- as mentioned, 'twas the BEST-EVER..!!..

goat-wise, don't eat those cute little critters ---- it taste nasty ... you won't like it.

Go to a Jamaican-wedding, and do-try the mannish water (i.e., a type of soup) ---- made with a nice goat-head in a big pot:::: horns, eyeballs, tongue, everyting, without the goat-smiling (of course) --- yummy stuff

again::::>>> DO NOT mess with the curried goat...!!!.. [[[ please, please, pretty-please ]]]
