Drink Eat be IRIE!
oh..??..
really..??..
if that is the case,
then you MUST-Go..!!... to St.James Street
let me repeat:::>> you MUST go to Saint James Street..!!..
when i first read this thread a few days ago, my head started to spin around and around and around.
i could chat from now 'til Christmas about MoBay & StJamesSt & environs [but am gonna be brief]
GOOD food, great-prices, EXCELLENT vibes, etc etc blah blah raa raa
do a Google-map, or some online map of the city
..the internet is your friend, mi fren
.....good-good maps out der
........ALL-ways get your bearings (BEFORE-hand)
with your back to the bay/sea, if you stroll about 3-4 blocks in-land you'll hit St.James Street. On & around that street is EVERY-ting --- EVERY-THING..!!!..
Food..??.. ---- in that part of Jamaica, MoBay is where folks go to get stuff, or take care of bizness, that they can't find in their town/village/etc. So, while doing-whatever they gotta eat at some point.
Tourist don't frequent this area, so everything is geared for the residents.
They be-selling stuff all over the place ---- in shops, likkle shops, big shops, on the sidewalks, in the alleys, everywhere. You gotta check-out the '..shoe-market.' ---- Wow..!!... --- nuff-nuff shoes der
opps..!!..
'spose be chattin' 'bout food.
you'll find sit-down eateries of all kinds, with ridiculous-ly low prices for outstanding stuff. Homemade cooked-from-scratch day-OF stuff.
you may see somebody munching on something along the road/street/sidewalk --- ASK them, "..WHERE you get that..??.."
or
as i once did::>> mi-SAY::>> "..I'm hungry ... WHERE can i get something to eat..???.."
*discover-ed quite a few GREAT places by asking so.
one popular place had a buffet-line steam-table set-up that will blow you mind with options/selections-available. And of course, tipping is not expected or required.
oh
oh::>>before i forget:::>>> for the squeamish(sp?), picky-eaters, ALL these eating places are CLEAN CLEAN super-CLEAN [[period]]
for me,
a treat is always the MoBay bus park
great snacks, foods, and fun people-watching place.
as mentioned, along the side-walk you'll find sales-people selling this and that. I've seen some cute women's undergarments on those sidewalks. Cute stuff ---- next trip i'm gonna get some as gifts for a few boardies, as i run into them.
Nevertheless,
a tip::>> lot of folks work in MoBay, so,
they gotta eat breakfast na tru
if you're up early
GO to the bus park area, and i guarantee you'll stumble upon some-somebodies selling some WONDER-FULL breakfast stuff. It WON'T be eggs & bacon & pancakes, crepes, sausage, Cheerios, etc, but it'll BE GOOD..!!..
in the area
are a couple markets, too
...get some fresh fruits, drinks, etc.
* sigh *
fingers tired
jus' GO to St.JamesStreet
lata
oh
oh::>> one last thing-y::>> check out the CaptainsTable Bakery .... KFC... the pattie shop (can't remember if it's TanTan or JuicyBeef)
me gone

and if you decide to take a "tour" -- you are in the perfect position - MoBay --- to hit up ochie or Negril for a day trip --- they do tours from sunset --- but i suggest walking out the gate for a better price
also you know there is sunset at the palms in Negril? maybe you can trade off one of your free nights to stay there --- it's kind of far out -- but i think you know how to get around :-)
take pictures!
Seveen, i'm SO-glad you mention-ed that.
'twas something i had thought about, too
via Ja-route-taxi/van/bus system it's a QUICK fun-fill-ed, relaxing ride from MoBay to Negril.... CHEAP too.!!..
play that "..from-foreign tourist.." card, and you'll get the seat up-FRONT with the driver.
if were-me,
i would make the Negril trip in the morning, during *rush-hour*,
then return to MoBay during the evening rush-hour....
....'cause PLENTY more-frequent buses/vans/taxis
remember::>> rush hour there, just like in-foreign ---- lots of folks moving same-way as in-foreign ..... ergo, more available vehicles. ... shouldn't take more than an hour (even with stops along the way).
__ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[[[ below, an aside, for Seveen only ---- all you's others can ignore ]]]
my dear Seveen ---- that's a cute avatar pic,
BUT i *think* the one with you on the lounge chair, feet pointed at camera, with the purple-blueish swim suit is MUCH betta
* sigh *

Do do that..!!..
you'll be over-glad you did
:-)
two-more thing-ys:::
first,
mid-way along the street is Sam Sharpe Square
I like to use it as a chill-out, people-watching spot
grab a pattie at the near-by shop
and chill
second,
a *trick* I *learned*:::>>>> wear sunglasses
sunglasses tend to throw-off folks (as they try to size-you-up)
...they can't see your eyes
...don't know where you looking
...masks some of your body-language
Check the guys in Negril along the beach, as they scope-out tourists:::: they wearing sunglasses
