Christians make up 64% of the population but many people are un-churched--claim no religion. In Negril, a town of maybe 2000 people (take away the tourists) I would bet there are 40 Christian churches; Apostolic, Pentecostal, Church of God, United, Anglican, Later Day Saints, Adventists, Roman Catholics, etc. The largest denomination in Jamaica are the Seventh Day Adventists and #2 is Church of God. remember that when the British came to Jamaica 350 years ago they threw the Spanish out--and the Catholics too. Henry VIII had done his thing and the Catholic Church was outlawed for many years. Speaking of religion. In Jamaica, in 2012 we celebrated the 500th anniversary of the establishment of Christianity on the Island. the first permanent churches were Roman Catholic and established by the Franciscan Friars who came over from Hispaniola! Why do I care? Because I am a Franciscan Friar! Big up Friars!

In the photo above did you notice I'm holding a Red Stripe (did you notice that, Fred Stripe)! One of the nice things about being Catholic is you can drink Red Stripe! --Fadder Jimaica
