Fastest way out of the airport.

I know that everyone likes a bargain, and likes to say "I can get that for less". But I would like to remind everyone that .....etc etc etc etc ........... So a 55 mile trip (the distance from MBJ to Negril) ,,,,, etc etc etc ,,,,,,,,,,,,, If I take a taxi from my place to the Syracuse airport....etc etc .............

BUT thing$ different in Jamaica
..... can't really compare foreign-thing-y-$ with Ja-thing-y$, like you're doing

for example,
if one were to use the Jamaican route-taxi system, from the airport-to-Negril, the odds are pretty-good that you'll get to Negril quicker.

and:::>> you'll DEFINITE-ly pay less than all those options (above).

probably something like:::>> US $6.50

in brief,
you'd catch a taxi right-there at the airport (just like those who work-there do, a daily basis), and quickly go to MoBay bus park

hop another taxi ride to Lucea

and then a final ride to Negril

if your resort is on the Beach Road, the driver will stop there.

if you're on the West End you'll have to catch another taxi (approximately, another US $1.00)

In fact, if you tell the driver carry-ing you from Lucea, that you want to be dropped off on the West End, I'm willing to bet you a bag-juice that he'll do it (for the US$1.00, of course).

What about your bags/luggage..???..

it's a free service ---- it's part of The-Service ---- it's how things-GO in Jamaica ... it's '..the runnings..' ....... plenty of room in the trunk is a GUARANTEE..!!.. [[ trus me ]]
they keep those trunks EMPTY and CLEAN, to tote passenger-stuff.

(in general), Don't nobody tip a route-taxi-man in Jamaica (except a foreigner). (most-times) Tipping is a first(?)-world cultural/mindset thing-y.

....which is one reason i go-to Jamaica ---- to dash-away those first(?)-world foolishness-es.

Flip, the last time I drove by in 2008 it was still there, but it wasn't staffed like it was back when the "OLD" road was the only way to Negril. The Juta buses would slow to a crawl as you approached the bridge and the vendors would stuff enormous "BUDS" through the open windows. Oh the memories....

we have a friend (red plate) Byron hangs at sunset at the palms that we use for everything else.
flying again from mo bay this year on timair not cheap but it was alot of fun!
take taxi (Byron) back to drag out every last minute we can

Given the number of small businesses in the US that fail because they have what they think is an adequate cash flow but are not actually covering expenses, it wouldn't surprise me at all to find that drivers in JA saved up to buy the car, went into business and think they're doing OK, but are not setting adequate money aside to replace the car when needed. Many US sole proprietors do exactly the same, and it's a major reason why the lifespan of most businesses is so short. I have no idea how vehicles are financed in JA, how much money down is required, etc., so this is speculation on my part, but I do know firsthand how easy it is for a small business to undercharge for products or services right up until bankruptcy happens.

Once upon a time, I-too, kinda sorta had those *thoughts*, 'til i shocking-ly *discovered* that a whole-HEAP of those driving taxi/vans/tours/blah blah DO NOT own-nutin' .... nutin' at-tall .... they-be renting the vehicle from some-somebody

My driver has been doing it for over 20 years. One thing to keep in mind is that many drivers that do airport transport also do tours, and their margins are probably offset. Like any business, your margins vary and are probably supplemented by additional services rendered.

Paid $50 with Joe Cool Taxi last Summer/Tipped $10... That was after I got in Saturday, hung out with my Dallas Church Friend at one of his properties and forgot to call and set up my pick up for that Sunday morning's trip to Negril... Englebert aka "Joe Cool" made sure his "VP" picked me up for the trip to Negril within 90 minutes of my Sunday AM, slightly panicked call,lol! Here ya go... i use route taxis in jamaica BUT i am very careful not to take the seat of someone that uses that route taxi on a daily basis to get to or home from work (which is the case with some of the longer haul route taxis)

in negril there's always another ride in seconds --- not necessarily so traveling from mobay
