Good question, Eco! That's always a concern. First, the staff needs a break on occasion and the Kitchen needs a good cleaning now and then. Our last meal before Christmas break is a big deal We serve a nice special meal, each family gets a substantial bag of food (a chicken, rice, peas, oil, mackerel, sardine, bully beef, flour, sugar and so on). Santa comes with presents for all the children. It's a blessed and fun day. The main reason for closing is that many folks come to town to visit relatives for the holidays and the numbers at the Kitchen swell. Many we do not know and there tends to be problems at such times. The programme is expensive, of course, and this gives us a little break to catch our financial breath as well. Bottom line, we know that folks survived before the Kitchen and will survive when we are closed. --Fadder Jim

rickme, soccer balls are good! Kids love football (soccer). The other items you mentioned are welcome. We always use underwear and socks for kids if you have a little spare room in the luggage. Thanks for the support. If yo need help getting the stuff to the Kitchen give me a call. My cell is 881-1763! --Fadder Jim

Thanks for the update. I guess it's bad news for me but good news for the staff at St. Anthony's.

Fr. Jim, what color socks do the kids need to have? Also, what type of socks?(crew, no show, etc..) I know that here in the US kids are very particular about the style of socks they wear. Just want to get the proper ones, so the children are happy. Also, for sizes of underwear, can you tell me the ages of kids they will be for? We will be there in a few weeks, and I am trying to get as much stuff together that I can.

Dear pamc12345, Crew, no show etc....Yikes, I wear flip-flops or sandals all the time. Actually, I think crew is best as the will mostly need them for school. As for underwear, the ages range from 5 to 16. The majority are in primary school. You are kind to do this. You can deliver the stuff to the Church, the Kitchen or give me a call (cell is 881-1763) and I can stop by and pick it up if that is helpful. Thanks! --Fadder Jim

Brown socks is what was posted before or black was sometimes accepted. I would want it to be accepted so would get brown personally.

Brown or black works--the uniforms are brown (khaki) and most shoes are black. Take your pick! --Fadder Jim
