A great adventure in Negril is to take a boat ride up the Negril River. Early morning or late afternoon are great times for this. (when the sun is not too hot). Ask one of the fishermen to take you, or one of the glass bottom boat captains. Lots of birds and great scenery. Bring your camera. You will go back in the morass and see the Royal Palm Reserve from the river. Probably about 2 hrs round trip at a leisurely pace. I've always wondered why this tour is promoted a little more, because it is an incredible experience. Let us know how you like it!
sunray; that sounds like a great adventure. Who did you approach at the fisherman's camp to take you? (and how much $?)
Big Frank, I walked down to the fishing boats tied up along the river (by the bridge before the roundabout), and asked if anyone could give me a ride up the river to see the morass. It won't take long before you have a volunteer or two. When I went a couple of years ago, I think I paid about $40 US total for two of us. Let them know you want a slow ride to view the scenery, choose somebody that's got a cool vibe, and enjoy!
Of course in Negril, almost anything can be arranged, if you prefer to be picked up on the beach at your hotel that would be no problem.
Thanks sunray; that sounds easy.
I highly recommend the river trip. We like to go if there's been a rough stretch to give the snorkeling boats some work. Capt Kirk gives a very relaxed tour. Capt Mike in front of Charela also always runs a tight ship. Both great guys
Great birding in the preserve. Hope it's open this winter
