    Your favorite souvenir from Negril?

Every morning when I wake up, I open my eyes and see this hand-carved butterfly hanging up on our bedroom wall. I have to smile.

It immediately takes me back to Negril. I can remember it hanging up on the tree stump next to Courtney the carver's makeshift display table in front of the Grand Pineapple. I can remember gazing at it longingly every time I passed by. I can remember the sound of the surf, the salty smell of the Negril ocean air, the warmth of the sun and the feeling of soft sand inbetween my toes.

Courtney carved his signature in the back and the date. it's such a beautiful piece of art that's truly special to me and is definitely my most treasured memento from our trip.

There are a lot of little reminders of Negril laying around the house... Every one of them with a story attached.. The carved bird on the table, the bag draped on the chair, the seashells on the bookshelf, and our "irie box" that contains the money we've been putting aside for our next trip.

I was thinking about souvenirs that people bring back from their trips and started wondering what everyone else has taken home from Negril. I imagine after 10+ trips, your house must be filled with reminders of Jamaica.

What's your most treasured souvenir or memento from your travels to Jamaica? What's the story behind it?

    Memories

"....with more than 26 years of travels to Jamaica, our mind is so filled with bits
and pieces of such wonderful sights, its really hard to pin just one down.................

the first would be the sparkle in my wife eyes as we traveled the island, and the smiles and laughter that would cross her face at the sights we saw.........

the second would be seeing friends that we have met years back and seeing their
children grow up..........here is the "Little Green Island Crab Girl"..............now grown into a beautiful young woman..................

and the list could go on and on.............

The day after we got married we walked the beach and my husband bought me a very simple bamboo ring with a beautiful piece of red coral for the "stone", and i have to say i look at it with the same amount of fondness as i look at my wedding ring! My "other" ring reminds me of the magic of not only the day but the magic of Negril. I also got my engagment ring in Negril, but this little wood ring stirs up such intense and happy memories. My husband jokes that had he known that it could have saved him a lot of money!!!

The box in the top left was the first souvenir I received as a gift when my parents travelled to JA in the early 80's/ '90s telling me stories that got me wanting to go. It contains dried flowers I've received over the years.

The turtle I won while staying at Beaches my first trip to JA. When I came home my dog, Bailey got to it and I came home one day to find the high polish scratched and chewed on...I was a little peeved to say the least.

The hanging Virgo plaque was from my first solo trip@ grand Pineapple and purchased from Courtney. Ja and Virgo-representing all in one!

And the shell is from the trip I just got back from. I have other smaller shells I've collected close to the shoreline, but I happened to be out in the water about 630 AM my last day and noticed it in the water. I wasn't quite certain it was a shell and I was out in shoulder height water. Because I couldn't get to it, I made a note of the stick that was nearby and the bouy position to try to locate it. I stood next to it for a good 10 minutes waiting for my guy to get back from the room to get it for me. I had drifted from that point by the time he returned but my "GPS" mapping helped me find it again.

    Great thread.

My Karl Ricketts painting. We had just left the confines of the AI for our first stay on the cliffs. Hubby and I were sitting alone at the LTU except for the rasta in the back corner. We were feeling a bit out of sorts in a new completely foreign place...the bartender doesn't know our names...the second hand smoke starting to mellow us. Karl appeared out of nowhere and approached us. We had quite the spiritual conversation. I immediately recognized his name from this board. A bit later we parted ways, I had a beautiful painting and such a warmth in my heart. Dare I say the universe brought him our way when we were feeling out of place...and now the cliffs call to me to come home. We also have it hanging in the bedroom so it greets me every morning.

A test tube full of sand, years ago when we went to Hedo we took a huge raft so big it needed its own suitecase. When we got home and the suitecase had a ton of sand from the wet raft so Mr stuck filled a test tube.Out of all the items we brought back the sand is the only item out where we see it every day.
