This one really grinds my gears. My wife and I usually try to pack all our stuff together, so that we only have to check one large bag. Here's our experience with the 50 lb weight limit on US Airways:

PHL Airport: The bag weighs 51 lbs on their scale (it weighed 50 or less at home). The ticketing agents make us open our bag and take out 1 lb of clothes, or pay an extra $50.

MBJ Airport: The bag comes to 52 lbs on their scale. No problem, mon! Good nuff! and they put bag on the conveyor without a hassle.

Air jamaica used to put an elephant sticker on the overweight bags. One year, to alleviate this, I purchased luggage for my wife that had elephants all over it. I figured it made life easier, she was not amused.
