Oh Yeah!!!! I have fond memories of working the beehives with my Grandfather. I will never forget the site of his "beesuit" as he called it and him with the smoker.
I bought some honey and toured the hives in Negril with a great rasta! One can buy honey directly from him or at some of the local stores that carry his honey. Rough House...I believe is the name. He is located down the lane from Seastar. If coming out of the SS gate...take a right and walk on down the lane. It really isn't very far. You should see his place on the right. Anyone along the lane will know which house. I knocked on the door...originally, just to purchase some honey...and began telling him about my Grandfather. He said, "Wanna see mi hives?" and with that, we were off into the bush, just a short walk from his house. It totally made my visit!!! All those childhood memories came flooding back. It was awesome. Go check him out on your visit. You won't be disappointed!![]()

Nice photos Mud. Hope they make it through the winter.
in Jamaica,
there's a bee-*robbers* organization/association
i *vague-ly* recall there being an active *chapter* in Westmoreland/Hanover Parishes
i suggest doing a Google, and or contact the Jamaican government agriculture-folks... the government seems to have a VERY good website:: >>>> http://jis.gov.jm/
in Lucea-country, where i *stay* there's a guy who robs-bees.
i get his honey all the time --- good stuff
IF you're there when I am, i might be able to link-you with him. His cellie number, contact info is buried on one of my computers.
additionally,
i vaguely recall once see-ing a bunch of hives, some someplace just outside of Negril, near OrangeBay ---- can be seen from the main road.
oh
oh
oh::>> 'less i forget:::>>> i haven't been on-island in over 2-years, soooooooo EVERY-thing i've posted above might be NOT-so.
as you probably already know, stuff do tend to change quickly & overnight in Jamaica ---- here today, GONE tommorow ---- is a bartender today, is a security guard the next-trip, blah blah raa raa

There is an organization of some sort in Lucea area. I know a keeper that way named Bobbie, ya know him Smith744?
that which does not kill you makes you stronger
maybe, but don't think so
i don't know no names
from looooooooooooooong-time, i've given up on learning/remember-ing folks names ----- everybody got 2, 3, 4, 5 names ---- too confusing for my likkle feeble minded pea brain
in fact,
even-I have 'bout 4-5 names down-there
[[[ ummmmmmm... maybe it's 7-9 ]]]
...my government-name, and names *they* gave me
so it goes

Marsha sells her honey in the lot next to Firefly. She keeps her own hives. Delicious
Mud
You don't have to wear all that bee-keeper stuff to keep the bees from stinging you. Just put a flea collar around each ankle, your wrists and your neck, and you'll be good to go.![]()
