Wow, what does your airfare really cost?

While dreaming of frequent trips to Negril and looking at airfare for January, I came across this AirTran flight from Atlanta.
I have booked many flights, but have never seen a breakdown of the taxes and fees.
$134 each way, and $142.99 taxes and fees, over 1/3 of the price.

Fare 1: Carrier FL EC14XN ATL to MBJ (Economy) $134.00
Fare 2: Carrier FL EC14XN MBJ to ATL (Economy) $134.00
US September 11th Security Fee (AY) $2.50
US Passenger Facility Charge (XF) $4.50
US International Departure Tax (US) $17.20
Jamaican Airline Passenger Levy (QK) $20.00
Jamaican Passenger Aviation Service Charge (UC) $4.00
Jamaican Tourism Enhancement Fee (HG) $20.00
US International Arrival Tax (US) $17.20
Jamaican Passenger Aviation Service Charge (UC) $4.00
Jamaican Passenger Facility Charge (JT) $3.00
Jamaican Passenger Service & Security Fee (EK) $10.89
Jamaican Int'l Airport Improvement Fee (EL) $5.00
    Jamaican Travel Tax (WD) $17.20
    US Customs Fee (YC) $5.50
    US Immigration Fee (XY) $7.00
    USDA APHIS Fee (XA) $5.00

    Subtotal per passenger $410.99
    Number of passengers x1

    Total airfare & taxes $410.99

I thought it was the law now they had to include the taxes in the price that you see. Am I wrong? I believe most do.

I would be thrilled to get that. We go over Christmas, and flying from MKE Xmas/New Years time is almost $800 each.

I've watched the taxes & fees for years, especially when the airlines would post the cost & add the "extras" in later. Whoa... The amount depends on the city. I just booked FF w/ miles & all I had to pay was taxes & fees... ~$109. Good deal for high season.

Slightly Stoopid, you are so right! I saw a one-seat-left-only one way fare Montreal to Mobay at CAD8.00. Really! 8 bucks. HOWEVER when the taxes were calculated in (on a higher base price) the total cost something like $430! So much for the cheap flight!

I wonder if you still got their excellent peanut or pretzel if you were in that cheap seat. I guess not!
