The old school sativa strains that used to be all over Jamaica (Lambsbread for example) have been replaced by much faster growing indicas.
Doesn't mean you won't find it, but it's no longer prevalent.
Also, take what you're told with a grain of salt - you're bound to be told its sativa to make a sale.
I posted a thread asking about the current state of ganja and received a few PMs in response, one telling me about specific sativa strains, but the strains they mentioned are actually mostly indica.
If kush is in the name, its an indica.
Does Durban Poison ring a bell?

That's an african landrace sativa. I had seen it on menus in Amsterdam but have never tried it.
A pure sativa that originated from the South African port city of Durban
