    Kikn,

I am suggesting that Suzan is incorrect and misleading people, trying to pass off her opinion as fact.

And you have the right to disagree. But do you know first hand of many real, actual tourist incidents that have not been reported here?

And I did not say several threads were deleted, but "a few" and those few", not "several" as you state. And they have only been deleted for one reason, the victim's right to privacy issues and not for "various reasons" as you claim. Please re-read my post.

But for the staff of Negril.com to attempt to hide true incidents would not only be futile but also undermine the credibility of Negril.com which would be counterproductive to our business.

As mentioned in our easy to read guidelines, items that have no basis on tourism as well as rumor and speculation that have no basis in truth are of course removed as they should be because they serve no useful purpose at all. The Negril rumor mill can invent all kinds of amazing fictional stories. You cant blindly believe everything you read on the internet. Read Snopes sometime - even major news outlets can be led astray by fictional stories.

But it would be easier for the staff of Negril.com to try and stop the sun from rising than trying to not have the truth reported here. But we do have the advantage of knowing nearly everyone in town, which makes it very easy to quickly determine what is true and what is fiction.

Yes. The place we stayed last February, mid beach, had been robbed 4 times in the previous week.

Absolutely! Negril is my favorite place in the world! I'll be back next week, and can't wait! The vibe is still certainly there still!

However, bad things happen, and I see no help in sugar coating things.

    Kikn,

Since you know about the 4 robberies that happened the previous week last February and you see no help in sugar coating things, why are you not mentioning the name of the property in question and offering details of the robberies so that others may benefit from this information?

And if you notice, this is being reported here right now, so to say it is not reported only comes down to the fact that you didnt report it in the first place.

Please present the details about the robberies so others may benefit in the future. If you are certain it happened just as you heard it did, then others can be helped.

But please do not blame us for you not reporting something that you know, that cannot be our fault.

Well, quite frankly, I did not feel the need. We showed up with no reservations in the middle of high season. All of our regular places were booked up. The place we ended up staying at was a small hotel run by a lovely woman. A small place, I have never once heard the hotel name mentioned here or anywhere else online. The owner informed us of the recent robberies, we still booked, and our stay was fine and uneventful. The report of the robbery was secondhand, from the hotel owner and a neighbor, so I felt no need to say anything negative about the place.

But yeah, I probably could have said something so that others could be warned. Like Kahuna, these robberies were simple and preventable. Lock your windows. Problem would have been solved. Thief entered from an unlocked window every time. And, again rumor and heresay, but was told that in at least two of the robberies the window had been unlocked earlier in the evening by a hooker invited in the room earlier.

But, rather than reporting it, when I hear about this and other easily preventable incidents, I will simply give advice for people to avoid the issue. Don't walk the beach at night. Lock your doors and windows at night. And if you bring a hooker home you are only asking for problems. I have heard of several incidents, but pretty much all of them have been easily preventable.

But, sorry Rob, I don't think I hear about a fraction of the incidents involving tourists here or anywhere else. I believe Suzan is absolutely correct.

So Gee,now fo the Second time you refuse to name the hotel but you also say you want to stay at a safe place? So,why don't you say the name of the hotel to "warn" others????

Sounds like a nice coat of sugar to me.... with a touch of hypocrisy thrown in for good measure. You speculate that only a fraction of incidents are reported here, and complain about that on Negril.com. Yet you feel perfectly within your rights to decide what should be reported or not.

None of us at the staff of Negril.com would ever make a decision like that. If it happened, it happened, it is not up to us to choose what gets reported or not. Other than when the privacy issues of the victim become involved, actual incidents should, can and are being reported here.

Four robberies happen at a single property in a single week and and no one reports even one of them anywhere? And the owner "warns" you of this before you check in? This makes me think, or raises my "spidey sense" as some have called it. Something just doesnt sound right about this, there may be more to this story than any of us know...

So now these 4 completely vague, second hand, speculative, non-informational or beneficial alleged robberies have been reported here. The information can offer no benefit or help to any of the readers of this board other than they may or may not have occurred.

I stand by what I wrote:

"Because of cellphones, smartphones, Negril.com, Twitter, Facebook, OGNR, the Gleaner, the Observer, the Star, Youtube, personal blogs, Tripadvisor, visitors own local newspapers and countless other resources available to everyone on the internet at a moment's notice, there are very few real incidents (along with a few fake ones) that do not make it to the internet nowadays. And with Negril.com being the largest Negril information source available, the true incidents do tend to make it here. To think otherwise is not understanding the reality of how invasive and fast information travels in the world today."

You and Suzen can disagree, but you are the one making decisions about what gets reported or doesnt get reported, not Negril.com...
