    Flights

OK here we go. Those of you who read my posts may have read the one about waiting for an air carrier to screw up to book flights. The url shortcut below is from Southwest's screw up yesterday when they threw a passenger off a plane for making a vodka joke after they had been delayed on the tarmac for three hours. They have already released an official apology and out until late October (the latest Southwest is booking right now) they are on average $200 or more dollars cheaper than every other carrier flying to MBJ.

Hi Irene, thanks for posting this. I never knew that blasphemy against an airline was a federal crime. These airlines are real quick to quote the standard “the safety of our passengers and staff are out first priority,” when they screw up and over-react over something so silly like this. I noticed SW didn’t mention the over-reaction by their flight crew by causing another unnecessary delay to add to their already delayed flight.

BTW, I booked my RDU-MBJ Oct 26 - Nov 2 SWA flights on April 11 for $530. The same flights are now $598 🙁

All that and the dude did not get any vodka. Makes perfect sense that the lazy flight attendants are only serving water when the plane was delayed for hours.

I prefer Delta into MBJ. We have never had any problems except for some delays in crazy weather.

I flew on United Airlines last week and it was a complete horror show. Six flights and every single one was late. They served nothing but water on all six flights because "they did not have time" to do the cart thing. The didn't have time because they were standing in the back of the plane *****ing and moaning about their employer for half of the flight. Its like flying on an expensive greyhound bus.

Flew American last month and arrived 7 hours later than planned, total disaster and only saving grace was that my kids (8 and 10) were champs the whole time.

I wrestled with airfare a lot this year in planning our trip from Phoenix. We are a family of 4 and you can go broke just trying to get to Jamaica. I was told it is because of the high tax when flying into JA which is the 2nd highest in the world? Not sure how accurate that is but after poking a bit on one-way flights I see the leg from U.S. to JA is ~$550 but the leg out is ~$200. I had a bunch of Frequent flyer miles on three different cards but none had enough for a roundtrip ticket so I ended up using miles to pay for 3 tickets oneways there then payed cash for the legs back. The net result was $1500 for a family of 4 vs. $3200 which made the trip possible.

Thought I'd share the tip in the event you are in the same boat as me.

In 9 days my butt will be on the Negril white sand Red Stripe in hand. So excited!!!

One Love Negril, I just checked what we paid for taxes and carrier imposed fees from Philly to MoGo and back and it came to $135.42 for October flights. We used Frequent Flyer Miles for this trip. 25,000 miles round trip per person.
    Regards,
    Bob
