Traveling Solo and Jamaican Men

I keep seeing inaccurate information being spread on an unnamed forum about the intentions and unwanted attention by Jamaican men towards women tourists. And I just want to clarify by saying that Jamaican men are like men everywhere. Some are players who only want money or a green card but others are honorable and sincere in their intentions. My husband of 13 years is a living example of that. We have two beautiful children and are extremely happy. I just wanted to clarify this in case solo women travelers have second thoughts about traveling to JA.

Negril is not really a very good representation of Jamaican men overall especially on the beach and in clubs/bars. So in those areas I wouldn't say that information is inaccurate and I definitely wouldn't say that the majority of men you encounter there are the same as everywhere. Foreign women should definitely expect a lot of male attention and a persistence that they may not be used to. Subtle polite hints that you are not interested often aren't taken and just being friendly can lead to unwanted advances sometimes. I've seen it too many times over the years and I've also seen a lot of hearts broken to go along with some good stories. This is coming from someone who has Jamaican brother in laws, nephews, and long time friends who I'd vouch for in a heart beat but they'd say the same thing. That being said, it's like that in Negril because a lot of foreign women come down for that exact reason to hook up. So if you're not interested in a romantic experience with an individual who approaches you then make that bluntly clear because a lot of women are there for that and it's easy to be mistaken as one when flying solo. In my opinion Negril is perfectly safe for a solo female traveler who exercises the same amount of caution they would traveling to any big city in the US when alone especially if you have a trusted driver/guide. Just my two cents.

I don't think anyone was thinking that....I just get tired of the Jamaican men & Jamaican women being totally blamed for the "hustle" when it's usually transactional.

Absolutely transactional!!! The entire game has remained the same over the years but I'm seeing a new trend......tourist women chasing the men in the hopes of relocating to JA.

And the women are so vulnerable and needy and fall for the hustle and end up bankrolling their guy for years. And then wonder why it doesn’t work out lol. I did it right, my guy bankrolls me lol. Totally joking, kind of sort of…
