We never know when our time is up , one can be the most careful best researcher in the world , check the documents , text the reg plate, pay for all seats, check only one male in the car but then what if you are faced with a tool of sorts? a knife? a gun? Lots of cases around the world involving things like this are just a case of bad timing.Wrong place wrong time not much could have stopped it.Just be careful as you can be out there that is all we can all do anywhere.

[QUOTE=Bnewb;63998] Always wondered who complained to TA, Weathemon...!

    Now you know.

Anyway, if one just uses common sense, or, lacking that trait, tags along with someone who does, overall one would be a lot safer in Negril or anywhere else, for that matter.

You do realize that this was not some newb to Jamaica, they had traveled to the island numerous times. I don't think common sense was the issue here. Something terrible happened to these women and "some" are choosing to sweep it under the rug and go about pretending that nothing bad ever happens and/or blaming the victim for the wrongdoers actions.. That just seems wrong to me.

and so as not to be sexist to even put another slant on it, all this talk about how many men in a taxi and how they look or sound, clearly no-one has even thought about coming across a badgyal? some badgyal are fierce.
Do not let your guard down just because you see a female and THINK you are safe, this goes for ANYWHERE.

Where is this being swept under the rug? Certainly not here....

Now I have to throw my 2 cents in......

I don't think anyone is trying to hide information. I agree that this bad experience was not associated in any way with the hotel that the review was about. This incident could have happened to anyone staying at any hotel that decides to leave the hotel property. TA has forums and there are other siteswhere this information could be posted just as it is here that would allow others to seek clarification so everyone is as informed as possible. I don't believe this incident should reflect on the hotel and apparently neither did the reviewer since the hotel was given 4 stars.

TA could have placed the review under another section maybe?
I am VERY pleased this thread has stayed, living so far away I rely on websites such as this to get the real deal. the truth to make decisions not only for myself but for my family.
Life is not perfect and the fact this thread has stayed has spoken volumes to me that if there is something we should know, we will. That is good enough for me.This had definately NOT been swept under the carpet here and I am pleased to see reports of incidents will be noted and we can talk about it.Hurts me to think a boardie went and got in trouble.
BOARDIE DOWN! BUT when we care to share we can inform others. There is not a whole heap any of us can do really to stop incidents happening anywhere , what will happen will happen.Hopefully the victime got the reg plate or recognise the driver or something.I always forget everyones name but I never forget a face, I have a photographic memory too so one glance at the reg plate on the way in.I will remember. I wish people would follow up the reports of incidents it is very rare that they do so we never find out if police were called, who was at fault, what really happened, if charges were brought and such.Lawd help any taxi driver who try to rough me up! especially when I know I have nothing of value on me

Just saying that the post on TA did not belong where it was.

agreed, Weathermon. it should have been a forum post - not part of a hotel review. the whole point of it was to inform people - not only those looking up information on one property, but the whole traveling public.

Many of us (like myself) don't ever read reviews of hotels on T.A., but loads of people around the world DO read the forum posts and discussions sharing general info about the destination itself - and that is where that post belonged.
