We had friends who thought the same thing...until a couple of days ago when they arrived here. They were asked to show a piece of paper that proved they had a hotel booked/confirmed here and ended up having to convince the officers that the email confirmation on their phone was legit...they did not have a paper copy to show them. Immigration wasn't happy at all but ended up letting them through...it caused a bit of grief & a long delay getting through immigration.
You never know when you might be the one that gets checked thoroughly by immigration & it is your responsibility to prove you have a hotel confirmation & a return flight ticket.
