one time i booked at "the mold hotel" and refused to stay there --- i went crying to my favorite hotel with no reservations --- and still got my favorite room :-)

Never have that issue at Tensing. You book the room/cottage you want in advance, and that's yours. Red birch is waiting for me in just a few short months.

Happens to us fairly frequently, just too Canadian to ask for another room I guess. We never get the "great" room, even as repeat guests. Last trip our room was probably the worst in the category that we booked, sadly the hotel was full, sooooooo why rock the boat? This is why I really like the places that you book a specific room, that way you know what you're getting in advance

The ability to book a specific room is a big plus for sure. But the one time I attempted it, I lost it anyway due to staying fewer nights than first booked. Found this out in advance and chose to stay elsewhere. The ones where you can't book a specific room, all but one time, I researched the hotel/rooms and requested specifics, emailed to confirm, etc. I'm sure I annoyed the heck out of front desk/manager, but being the squeaky wheel showed results.
