the keyboard manufacture-er will do an auto-update to the software, Soon.

i hope that update isn't today ---- dunno 'bout the rest of you's, but thus-far I've had 6-7 auto-updates within the past 24-hours::: Explorer, WeatherChannel, ToDo list app, music player, Chrome, porn sites, and a few others.

it's as if EVERY software company on the planet is update-ing lately.

p.s.... it's NOoooo effort for me .... without looking at keyboard and/or fingers, with all-10 of my fingers, i type 100+ words-per-minute (on bad day).

I get it,,not busting ya...But it seems like alotta work.It's like telling a joke on the written page,it's hard to convey your thoughts.

I post here and many places All day too. Some folks may think it takes me ALL day,but I like to write.

Thoughts go in & out of my head Very fast,nothing is ever premeditated. I can write 10 statements in 5 minutes,so I relate to that.

A simple answer is this:

A "white plate" is a privately owned car (just like one you probably own at home) and the insurance covers regular use not using the car to transport people or goods. If he has an accident, you will have a hard time fighting with his insurance company to pay for any injuries.

A "red plate" is a registered and insured vehicle (like taxis etc. at home). They are required to carry a much more expensive coverage to insure all the customers who pay to use it.

Others can probably say more but bottom line: use a white plate and take your changes when for a few dollars more you can ride with a professional licensed and insured driver where you will be covered in the event of an accident.

In my opinion learning the local dialect is a requirement for a total immersion experience (as opposed to run of the mill tourism). It is also a requirement to earn a "Route Taxi How To" Cerfitickit! Seen? communication is key; how else am I going to know when dem a chat mi?

Amen mi sista!! I agree...it isn't trying to be cute, it is showing respect for the culture, at least to me. If one chooses to travel to Jamaica on a regular basis, it only makes sense to attempt to try and understand SOME patois. Having sponsored a Jamaican family so their son could have surgery in the states...I asked them to speak mostly patois while they stayed with us for nearly a month. I don't know who was the most frustrated...me or them. LOL I kept having to have the children repeat everything about 3 times...telling them to slow down in a futile attempt to understand. Even after many visits, I still stumble along but try to learn a likkle more every trip. Thanks for sharing your opinion goldilocks!

Sorry about getting off track from the route taxi thread. So, I'll add this, yes I am very guilty of using route taxis. It took several years before an attempt was made...but with time, I have found it to be quite an effective way to travel and cost effective. Walking is still my favorite mode of transportation in Negril but sometimes these old legs get tired!

The route taxis are more worth it if you're a single. If it's two of you, a chartered taxi -- with some negotiation skills -- is about the same price.

If you see a uniformed hotel worker in a route taxi, it's OK to jump in cause obviously they know the runnings. If you're all by yourself, that's a little different, but call me a fool, I trust everyone with a red plate.

simply-put:::>> my likkle brain can conjure up several senarios where 'Yeah' the driver is cool, BUT at least one of the passengers might not-be-so-cool, and the un-cool passenger's "..tourist-from-foreign.." radar goes off and dem feeling their oat$.

This is what I have found like Gerry says if your travelling solo route taxi is easy, I just got back and first time I ever have been and not used a route taxi. There was two of us and found most taxi rides were $5 unless it was farther than it was $10, and at night the rate seemed to be $10, not even worth the trouble of a route taxi.

Also, if you have to worry about being assaulted or robbed in a route taxi, I think that says more about the locals than the tourists.
