New International Airport in Little London

I didn?t see this mentioned on here recently but I thought this would have interest to boardies.

I think there much to speculate about what changes this will bring. Both positive and negative.

Unless there are enough non stop flights from the states at reasonable prices I think I'll take a pass. Anyway, I'll probably be long gone before it is ever completed. A better strategy might be to make a bypass around the bottlenecks getting from MoGo to Negril.

I get your cynicism regarding how long it would take.

The last time I thought about that the T-shirts I bought in the 80?s that read , ? I survived the road to Negril? was many years ago until this reach.

I don?t really understand the Jamaican Government?s choices fully. It seemed to suggest that the Government won?t have to raise capital. It would be financed with a public private partnership ( code for selling off part of the rights to the profits from the enterprise) I don?t really know how many properties would have to be seized to circumvent the current road, requiring Jamaican capital I presume.

The last time the current road was ?renovated ? in a major way was with Japanese capital if my memory is correct. -Jump in here anytime Rob to correct me or shed insider knowledge.

Well the other 2 major airports are not owned by the Jamaican Government. Sangster is actually owned in part by a Canadian conglomerate, the rest is owned by Mexico. Not a lot of mega projects are owned by Jamaica.

Yep, would be better if they just built a few bridges over the coves near Lucea, Orange Bay... etc...

wow, I think this is big news and surprised at how little interest there is. An international airport in Little London seems likely to attract speculation from Sav all through Negril. It will cause massive development in the entire western part of the country in the next decade. I wonder if much of the board is sufficiently old that a decade perspective is no longer interesting.

There really isn't much interest in the "plan" in Negril, Little London or Sav no matter the age.

Roads are now under an emergency directive to be patched island wide. Water plants island wide need upgrades. And the Lucea bypass was mentioned years before this airport.

Politicians can promise anything. We have yet to see any of the above accomplished. It's the "boy who cried wolf" syndrome. No one will believe anything until it is done.

Having said that, only 2 years ago they were talking about a MoBay bypass and by the looks of the progress we'll be driving on it by this time next year. I'm talking about a major overpass at Bogue Road, super size bridge over the Barnett River and an extension through the lagoon's to Fairview Shopping Centre.

Also keep in mind this new airport will not be government built, owned or run. This will be a private venture that all landing fee's and probably departure tax fee's will go to the builder. I'm thinking we will see this sooner than later.
