So what would a reasonable price be from Breezes Grand to the Cliffs?

you should only be taking red plate taxis cause dem are the only ones insured to carry you..........
plus the white plates charge triple or more of what the red plate taxis cost......white plates are gypsy's
you only have to pay $100J's to go in a route taxi from anywhere from the roundabout to the cliffs or vice versa during the day........
same goes for the Beach during the day........a lot of drivers do both now.........so it be $200J's to do Cliffs and Beach.......
mi probably was in a red plate route taxi 6 to 10 times a day last week.......
mi could never afford a white plate with what they charge cause mi budget would be out da window........

but everything gets thrown out the window after midnight on the Cliffs...
you'll get prices from anywhere from $600J's to $1200J's to go from the beach to the Cliffs after dark......vice versa too
cause very few red plate route taxis run the West End cause of no business at 2AM etc in the morning........

There is never any reason for anyone to take a "white plate" vehicle as a taxi - they are NOT TAXIS - they are illegal taxis who are charging you to essentially hitchhike. There is no insurance coverage should an accident happen, and you could be held responsible for damages caused in any accident because you were engaging in an illegal activity that is responsible for the damage.

This is a very simple rule to live by...

Local taxi rates are for the local people of Jamaica. Taxi drivers in Jamaica are hurting and can barely make a living. Gasoline prices are extremely high and the local fares don't cover the price of the gasoline. We hope you would offer local taxi drivers at least the price for a couple of Red Stripe Beers?

Come on! Less than a couple of Red Stripe Beers for a taxi in Jamaica?

    What are you all thinking?

Rhodes ..well said .. "local" pricing is exactly that ..for locals ..themselves earning small $$$ .. then again ..my idea of a tram up and down seems like a bright idea .. hop on hop off ..maybe stops at certain "friendly" establishments ....
When I hear of folks going to Half Moon Beach from roundabout for 140ja ...geesh ..no wonder the cabbies are starving !!

CaptainD - Absolutely! "Reach in your pocket and spread some around". Red Plates are legal taxis, bonded and carry passenger insurance. White plates don't and run illegal taxis. Even so, they still are all working hard to make a living in a third world country. Yes, foreigners should know the difference between the two. However, it is not a reason to take advantage of either one. We agree; "look how much that place does for you".
