So sorry about your rough start! That woman sounds very unprofessional! Make sure you alert your credit card so she doesn't try to charge you for the stay since you moved to a different hotel. Glad your luggage arrived! Yay! I agree with the others, shake it off, and don't let one rotten egg spoil your vacation. Enjoy!!

Sorry about the mishap at the airport I can only imagine MY reaction after about 19 hrs travel for my last trip to turn up and be expected to pay someone I neither wanted/needed or asked for NO WAY ,I would have said forward me the email NOW

I would never have paid that $50...sounds like it was a scam because they knew you were first timers! IMO, you should also name the hotel.
Having vented, I hope you feel better - it is not necessary to name the hotel. Who knows what all the circumstances or outside issues that my have contributed to this problem. As for giving the driver the $50? You took the high road and GOOD for you. Chances are if he had to make a return trip empty, the gas money would have been out of his pocket anyway so what you did was a blessing. Consider it a deposit in your KARMA BANK.It will come back to you many times over.
I hope you and your mom had a blast. I never got to do such things with my Mom - May she Rest in Peace... she didn't travel too easy. But I did get to have a long weekend in Negril with my daughter. She now knows why I go.
