A small beach high tide not much
Just walked past there this morning at high tide, no beach at all.
And low tide is not much better. Maybe two foot path of soggy sand.

There is no beach in front of Mariposa and there never will be as long as that sea wall remains in place. That's because the retaurant at Mariposa encroaches on the natural shoreline. Such is also the case for; The Boat Bar and the gift shop there, Tony's Hut, Lazy Dayz, The bar at Tree House and the Gazebo at Tree House.
When structures encroach on the natural shoreline, they cause errosion. Just look at the sand that has been carved out in front of the Tree House Bar, it is getting almost impossible to walk around it when the tide is up.
Every time I have to detour through the bar at Tree House, and walk in the water around the other structures that jut into the sea (which is several times a day when I'm in Negril) I wonder why they are allowed to remain there - well, I guess I know: $$$

I don't understand your statement about encroachment. The bar was built over 30 years ago? There has been beach erosion. We have lobbied the Government of Jamaica for many years for beach regeneration. Check minutes of the Chamber. I wish I had an answer, we have met with experts who have solutions. Sorry no $$ was paid. Come by so I can show you some old photos to support the true story.

Gail, completely nothing to do with this topic. I'd love to see the photos from 30 years ago, just to see them!
I have some pictures from 89 on my first trip to Negril, and yeah the beach was way wider!
