Have been hearing about water shortages in Negril? How bad is the problem? What is the cause? Is there a drought?

They're working on it, and there should be water by 4 p.m. according to the Observer ...
Thanks for the info Gerryg! I see it is because of a broken pipe and not the drought as had been widely rumored here.

We experienced low water pressure almost our entire reach on the beach in late December/early November. It would begin to just trickle around 6 PM or so and then be OK around 7 AM or so. I have heard that people in Orange Hill do not have water and haven't since yesterday as of around 4:30 PM Monday.
I hope this is true!

old out-dated infra-structure + new hotels, homes, buildings = the new rule and not the exception....We all should do whatever we can to conserve water, and Negril really needs to update its water infrastructure ....esp if it wants to cater to even more tourists and people moving into the area..
If your staying at a AI on the beach you probably wont have to worry- but smaller places and esp as you get farther to the West End-many visitors as well as locals are dealing with this issue..

If you are on vacation who cares drink rum. If you live there that sucks.
