    Smile Cell phones

    Our Jamaica cell phone died. Anyone know how much it would be to get one there, just a basic to be able to call home?? Please help, we will be there in 10 days. Thanks for the help

    we were in Negril in Dec. & bought a phone, sim card, & international/local minutes, everything cost around $25.00 from Lime.

    you can do down to digicell store in city center and pick one up, they might be able to use your existing sim card but if not youy would need to buy one of those two. I would estimate for a simple phone about $30usd and about 10 if need simm card. YOur phone might not have totally died but if you have not topped off every 2-3 months they will inactivate your simm and you will have to buy another.

    We live in Trempealeau, 30 minutes north of LaCrosse.

    Lime had a great special on the last week of November, under $11 ($999j) for phone, SIM and $100j in minutes. Got it at their counter in Mega Mart. You don't need to purchase international minutes, it's only about 3 cents per minute to US or Canada. Used under $300j in minutes for the week, called home 4-5 times and several local calls & texts.

    Lime's SIM stays active as long as you top up within 6 months of the expiry of your remaining minutes - someone posted recently that their SIM was still good almost a year between trips. You can top up online for as little as $5. Great deal!

    If you want to just call to the US download Majic Jack app to your US cell you get FREE calls to US numbers all you need is wi-fi signal . Use it this past Jan work great all for free on my US cell. Note you can get incoming calls also.

    Note I hand dialed my calls from the MJ key pad couldn"t get it to work using my android contacts. Tried to call Ja cell wouldn't work but US numbers it was great.
