    Re: Don't forget

Drug testing was just passed in Texas for those receiving unemployment benefits.... HOWEVER, whoever drew up the bill should be drug tested themselves....
the bill is not for everyone, it's only going to be mandatory for those who were in positions that were already being drug tested due to safety issues with their
job, or if it was required by the Labor Board..... this does not include those who work jobs that don't drug test as part of employment, in other words, people
who got their jobs without testing, could do drugs before, during, and then after when they get unemployment benefits... this solves nothing.... and does nothing
    to discourage usage during unemployment

Personally, I don't want the person driving a bus, especially school buses, or anyone doing a job which could threaten the lives of their co-workers or innocent
people doing drugs while performing their duties.... testing should be done for keeping a safe environment...... I have one of those jobs

But as a former occasional smoker..... I get a little bent out of shape that someone can get drunk off their asses every evening after work without fear of
reprisal.... but someone who takes the edge off with a little ganja for the same reason is criminal.... very hypocritical.... but again, if you have a job that tests
for cause... then you don't really have a choice, because if an accident occurs and you test +, then all the liability falls on you and the company can relieve
themselves of all responsibility regardless if you are at fault... so if you partake, the target is on your back

I think to each their own, but if your job depends on it, or its a safety issue.... gotta be smart and responsible... and for all the states that have passed laws making it legal...
that's progress in my mind... but it will not release you from the testing for your job, so for some the legalization really has no effect....

    Ok... soapbox off.....

It's a very complicated issue. The facts are clouded in smoke. (pun intended). If one partakes on his time off what he does can show up on a test given a long time after the fact and the ability to be impaired may be nonexistent. A test taken from a hair sample can prove positive results. How long ago might that have been?

I have no freedom to use any substance unless I want to lose my job PERIOD. Even if I am out of the country and am on vacation. So needles to say I will do what is best for my future. I had a very close friend that was a hopeless alcoholic and would have died if he continued his use of a legal substance. What saved his life was his replacement of that legal drug with an illegal one and he lived a very happy life much longer than anyone would have bet on. He died a happy man instead of wasting away with endless depression as a worthless individual.
