ya mon, jan and i had our first visit to st. anthonys kitchen this past november, we brought a few supplies, some cash and some garden seeds, we took a list of other seeds you might need to further enhance your garden that you thought you might start at the church, we have a lot of seeds to bring but also wondering if we could take Pearl or some one else grocery shopping for food supplies, i know we would really like to help in this way if we could, we are coming down march 16 for 10 days and checking to see if this is possible ?? thnx in advance blessings wayne and jan

    Greetings Oncedeported!

Both Fadder Jim and myself post on behalf of St. Anthony's Kitchen. My name is Phyllis and you're most welcome for the information. That's so cute about huggybear being the star of the show!

Here is how us Canadians (I'm a Canadian too) can help:

The cost varies for sponsorship depending on the child. it is more expensive for a high school kid, for example, because of taxi costs. The cost for a high school child is USD $700 to $800 a year (at 10 months a year). That cost includes outfitting the child with uniform, shoes, book bag and some supplies. We are sponsoring currently 42 children; 18 are high school, 21 are All-Age (like elementary) and 3 are basic (kindergarten). All-Age sponsorship is about USD$600/year. Of course, one can sponsor a child for the year. Or, sponsor a child for 1/2 a year, etc. Any amount of sponsorship is very helpful.

The total projected cost of the GKTS programme for this year is USD$15,000. This does not include the cost of outfitting the child or the cost of our school operation which transports quite a few of the All-Age children. We also serve breakfast to about 50 children each morning.

    To make a tax-deductible gift:

Make a check payable to Franciscan Friars, note the purpose of the gift, and send it to:

    Franciscan Missionary Union
    St. Michael's Retreat Centre
    P.O. Box 220
    Lumsden, Saskatchewan
    S0G 3C0

    Phone: 306-731-3316
    Fax: 306-731-3807

The contact person is Fr. Michael Conaghan, ofm.

Many thanks and blessings to you!

Dear Oncedeported, thanks for your interest in assisting with our work and making it your work. First, the Mission Office of the Franciscan in Western Canada has moved from Lumsden to Victoria, B.C. I am waiting to receive the new address and info for Canadians making gift to us through them. Will post the info as soon as I get it. The director is out of the country at the moment but did let me know he received my request. Also, you certainly are welcome to sponsor a child in part or in full but you can also make a contribution to assist in any other way you wish--to the Kitchen or just a general donation to help. Whatever works for you is fine with us. --Fadder Jim

Dear Waynef, Nice to hear from you. I'm not sure we can use the seeds as our garden project did not develop but I know of many folks who would love to get some seeds. As for taking Ms. Pearly shopping, we can arrange that. She goes to Sav every Friday morning to buy produce--and spends about JMD$15,000 (USD$150). I know that a visitor went along with her not to long ago. She seemed to enjoy it. I'll check in with her. If that doe not pan out there are other opportunities to go shopping. We buys lots of stuff every week. You are very kind to offer. --Fadder Jim
