Re: need a club for teenagers

In my opinion, this is less about age and more about life experience - Example - Last week when I was down, there were a couple young buff guys (mid-20's my guess) that were repeat visitors. "Experienced" tourists. He came by to visit the porch one night around 10 pm and had clearly had a really good time all day. His friend was passed out back in the room. He relayed a story about the night before at about 3 am he had gone for a walk on the beach and so many higglers had come out of "nowhere" in the bush and were being so aggressive that he ended up running at full speed back to the hotel. I mentioned that even back in SoCal, you don't walk in certain areas by yourself at 3 am unless you are looking for trouble. So, now the very next night he was going to walk back down to Bourbon Beach (from Treehouse) by himself, inebriated. I tried not to "Mom" him to death but I ended up slipping a few bucks with a local friend to go with him. I wouldn't have been able to sleep otherwise. Next day after both guys had shown themselves to be alive, the Visitor mentioned to me how much safer he felt all evening - fewer working girls at the bar bothered him, NO higglers had stopped him on the way home and that he was thankful for the backup.

Thanks for youe comments ihave been going to negril over 10 years now with my children now 18 and 19,
so they know basically the area where not to go.

We will be hanging out during the day ...but you know teenagers need a bit of space..i think i will end up taking them to see some live bands in the evening and usually the venue probably end up playing DJmusic

i have got until dec anyway..to think about this
    thanks

Maybe Sun Beach or Seastar for live music. Bourbon Beach or the Jungle for DJ' s.

And your teens will probably prefer the dj scene at that age.

Jungle- they will be fine. No different to a club in the states or uk. Sensible drinking advice and advice on not to leave with anyone should suffice. Also to be careful of the hooker girls in there, just say no....

Check out the chalk boards in town for local parties, always tourists at these, but due to their age I would recommend you to go as well. Maybe stand away from them but in sight. They will be okay and at their age this is probably the scene they are looking for.

After 20+ visits no chance in hell ever that I would let my 18 year old loose at night without myself or a long known employed chaperone. And the Jungle for a suggestion without a parent, oh heck to the no for me. We have went to Cancun last two spring breaks with mine and they still didnt see anything like that. Kids that age are going to be preyed upon just as a fresh pale white tourist is. With extra attention for a hustle or theft.

No issues to be had at Sea Star, maybe meet up with another boardie that is a long time vet and see if kids want to go to a mutual destination Alfreds or Bourbon if they dont want you around. I would personally not want to be responsible for someone elses child while there but I would definitely keep an eye on there safety and whereabouts at a mutual destination just as I have done for first time travelers I meet onsite.

Myself personally I have taken each of my older 3 to international destination each year from 16-19. I do let them run loose on AI properties after having a conversation with security and sometimes a slip of a few bucks to them. My one daughter on our second year to Ocho Rios did go in to town with the entertainment staff to Margaritaville and Prairie Beach but I had known them 5-6 weeks worth and we spent several hours a day with them.
I find Ocho Rios to be a much different animal than Negril although I know some do not agree. I will be in town again in a few weeks with my 18 year old and the only time off resort without me she will be taking a tour bus with others to Mayfield Falls where I have paid extra to an employee I was familiar with to see to her. We will be in Ocho Rios first and on week two if she is comfortable with some of the staff I have known 8 years
I will let her run around town with them. They brought my last two back in one piece. Kids this age do not want Mom and dad by there sides at all times, but we are still Mom and dad and their safety no matter what age is equally important to us.

Shellyk I understand some of your points, but was the fresh white pale tourist necessary? So much to say on that one, but don't want to get into it.

The music scene you are describing is good but it is for middle aged folk, these young ones will be bored stiff with that every night.

The jungle has lots of security staff, what do you think May happen to them there? Prob someone hitting on them, Alfred's is not any safer IMO, and I stopped going there because of the amount of hustlers, tacky.

Entertainment staff...I'd rather go to the same club and stand from a distance to supervise. I've seen some of those staff be very wild with tourists when they out and about. No guarantee there.

I must say I have been out on a million nights out in Negril, and all across Jamaica and I have never seen one fight or anything that made me feel unsafe. Mugging is a risk anywhere, although better to be aware but not commonplace or any more particular risk than during the day.

Jamaicans are also very protective of the young. When leaving the jungle there is police, security and plenty of taxi cars they can get straight into, or a driver can be pre arranged.
A chaperone, in my view is only a good suggestion if you personally know them, otherwise using your bar they could be anyone.
If the op is worried, as I said I would supervise them myself if it was me.

I think views might also be linked to where we are from. In the UK it is legal for an 18 year old to drink and get into clubs, and believe me they do it on mass over here, as well as a number of International destinations that they go to, to party.
Negril crime rate is no different and prob a lot less than in cities in the UK or US.

Another board member made a good point about these young peoples life experience also bearing relevance. Maybe they go out clubbing a lot at home,.

Isn't Rondel close by, across the street from Jungle? That eliminates the late-night taxi issue, be careful crossing the street as there are a lot of vendors and cars on the road then. If they are hungry plenty to chose from right there. Don't get sidetracked on the way back to the room !! Only take enough $ to cover entrance fee, a few drinks and something to eat on the way home, 1 ID, phone or a written contact number, in deep pockets. Upstairs Jungle has a couple nice tables and chairs, get there early and mom/dad have a place to relax and stay awhile, see what its like.

I may get voted Bad Parent of the Year Award, but my daughter has been going with me since she was 14 (now 20) and she's been to them all- Jungle, Rooftop, American Pie- even some road parties. Of course, I was always with her- so maybe that makes a difference and she only went to Rooftop and American Pie when she was 18. She's a smart kid though- I think it also depends a lot on how easily influenced one's child is. Some of the most sheltered ones really end up doing the crazy stuff once the "leash" is off.
