We just booked our 33rd trip to Negril. I get just as excited now as I did the first time. That is what makes Negril special. Like the love of a good woman, you never get enough!

Wow, I love this thread. I agree with everyone. The first time I went three years ago, my friends back home told me I came back a different person. I've never been anywhere else, just Jamaica. I had said after the first trip that I wanted to go back maybe every second year. Well, I couldn't wait that long and have gone back every year since. This year, 8 of my friends joined me, they had to see what I was talking about. Now they're hooked too. What a magical place!

I find that the first few weeks back from trips to Jamaica I feel more like myself. I am, at heart, laid back...creative...fairly care free...and then THIS place starts to tear me up again, and make me operate more like a shark, out to eat all in its path...competition...speed...work work work...that is valued more than a soul...

Within a month...because of work...the commute...meetings with the suited clan I belong to...the knowledge I need to make my mortgage payment to be close to work so I can pay for my mortgage payment...that unholy cycle...stresses me...wears on me...it works for me on paper but inside I'm a mess.

Somehow...and it's not an easy life...I think even the most poverty stricken Jamaicans I've met have it RIGHT. I can't put my finger on it...

That's the magic, for me. The spirit...a feeling that I get nowhere else.

I can't explain my feelings for Negril. It's not the only place that makes me feel this way, however, it is the most special to my heart. Our first trip was in "celebration" (not really the right description, but we were putting a good spin on it ) of our failed fertility treatments to try for one more child. It was a spur of the moment-get everything off our minds- renewing of our marriage kind of trip. We fell in love with the place and have returned as many times as we've been able.

All I know is that it just gets into your heart and into your soul and doesn't let go. Maybe it's the people, maybe it's the blue waters, or the flowers. I just know when I'm there, I feel like I'm home and everything is right in the world. I swear it's an aphrodisiac too,the hubs and I's are like horny teenage rabbits who have od'd on Viagra. I can't think of a single thing I don't like about Jamaica. Hell I find the vendors charming not pushy. Maybe this makes me sound naive, no place is perfect and I see the poverty the roughness of the lives of the residents, but I don't pity them, that would be insulting....sorry about the ramble....anywho.. Whomever came up with the whole When you go you'll know line was a bloody genius.

Awaiting our return to Negril, 07/01/12
