    Re: Can Jamaica fix it?

    Hi Amerapress,

It looks like from your first post on this thread that you will be doing some traveling while in JA. When you are down in Belmont you might want to take a ride to Treasure Beach (Jakes) which is just past Black River. Do you have a rental car or have organized transports? Also of interest in that area are the Appleton Estate Rum Tour, Lover's Leap, Seaford Town, Black River Safari. Not sure if you're gonna be glued to a beach chair or you want to see things but Jamaica is a lot more than a beach. Furthermore meeting some country Jamaicans might change your way of thinking in a better, healthier way and hence maybe jigsaw pieces to help complete the puzzle of life. Port Antonio is as awesome and beautiful as Negril and Belmont only in different ways. PA was once a huge banana shipping port and an original tourist location on the island. It was once a very elegant town and is still today a very nice change of pace. As I'm sure you know Ian Flemming, the author of the James Bond books discovered Port Antonio in the early 1940's. Actor Errol Flynn also discovered JA and PA and it became a destination for the rich and famous. Chris Blackwell, head of Island Records is part of a group called Island Outposts which has a group of very distinctive, not to mention ultra expensive boutique hotels. Caves (Negril), Golden Eye (Ian Flemming's house is the crowned jewel of Island Outposts) located in Oracabessa about 50 miles west of Port Antonio. Errol Flynn's Plantation is located outside of town and called Geejam, a property that combines a high end hotel with recording studios.

Be careful and have a great time. I'm sure it will be just what you need to get to the right place.

Wow! In all my living around and studying the history of Jamaica, this is news to me. I lived for a time right below Ian Flemming's house in Port Maria and have had the honor of reading books from his personal library and never heard anything connecting him with Port Antonio.

Could you please link me to where I can learn about that? I am in the process of writing a book which contains references to Ian Flemming's life in Jamaica and would like to keep it "real".

    Thanks in advance.

Nooo not planting my but in a beach chair. Culture, music, food , exploring and learning as much as possible. I did see some things on what u are talking about. Our travels won't bring us to treasure beach. Our first plan would have but the course has changed. We have transportation arranged to go to many places while we r on the island. Would love to go to jakes .... Really really wanted to but it was that way or Portland n port Antonio .. Maybe treasure beach next time. Two weeks isn't long enough!!!

    Accompong,

I guess my connecting Ian Flemming to Port Antonio was inaccurate other than it being 85km from Golden Eye My connecting him to PA was more that was the hub that those artists worked from. Navy Island for example. So you are right in the sense that Flemming didn't live there. Should have said he discovered Eastern JA near Port Antonio. As far as facts for your book go you are right.
